A 1st Edition, 2nd impression copy of this rare volume. Frederick Treves was a leading British surgeon and anatomist who ran a field hospital during the Boer War. His frank and sometimes graphic account is an insight into the severe hardships suffered by the English soldier during the conflict.

Frederick Treves was also one of the main characters in the 'Elephant Man' by Bernard Pomerance.
