One of a kind ornate stabbing spear with silver coloured wire binding and white cowhide wrap at base of haft. Unusuall, and likely used for the ritual slaughter of cattle in the Royal Herd to make war  shields.

Collected by Captain Hugh Lewis Herber-Percy on his travels to South Africa in the late 19th Century. Captain Herber-Percy, Shropshire Light Infantry and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S), a keen hunter and traveler who embarked on numerous adventures across the world, collecting souveniers and trophies. The Zulu items from South Africa were displayed in the main Hallof the Herber-Percy family home at Hodnet Hall, Shropshire.

From the collection of a Scottish collector and dealer who purchased it directly from the Herber-Percy Family at Hodnet Hall.
