This type of wrapped haft is rare, and often associated with the Swazi, but they were made by the Matabele, Zulu and Xhosa. The meaning is unknown but is probably connected to rank and status, and white hide wrap such as this would certainly mean high status indeed.

Small section of wire binding missing, but the blade is still firmly seated with no movement.

The blade is very old, pre 1879, and still sharp.
